The 9/11 attacks have had a profound impact on U.S. veterans, both emotionally and physically. Veterans who served in the aftermath of 9/11 often faced multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, leading to a significant increase in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health challenges. About 36% of post-9/11 veterans reported suffering from PTSD, with many experiencing traumas due to combat and witnessing loss of life.
The wars that followed 9/11 created a generation of veterans dealing with both visible and invisible scars, leading to ongoing mental health care needs and social challenges as they reintegrated into civilian life.
The Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission (MCVSC) is proud to assist veterans with PTSD claims by helping them navigate the complex process of filing claims with VA. Our team of Veterans Service Officers provides guidance and support throughout the application process. These officers help veterans gather the necessary documentation, submit claims for compensation related to PTSD, and advocate on their behalf during VA evaluations. This year the team here as recovered more than $6,000,000 in awarded compensation claims for Montgomery County Veterans.
Additionally, the MCVSC offers free financial assistance, transportation for medical appointments, and legal support, ensuring veterans have access to the resources needed to manage their condition now they are home and separated from active duty.
