Modern Warrior: LIVE
| | Created by internationally acclaimed musician Dominick Farinacci and US Army Veteran Jaymes Poling, Modern Warrior LIVE is a touring production that chronicles the story of U.S. Army veteran Jaymes Poling, his journey through three deployments in Afghanistan, and his subsequent transition back home. Narrated by Poling, this autobiographical production weaves together his story with a cast of world-class artists in multiple genres led by internationally acclaimed trumpeter Dominick Farinacci. It shares a personal and emotional journey of the challenges of military service and the experience veterans face when they return home, and it is a catalyst for meaningful conversation about mental health. With more than 150 performances to-date, Modern Warrior LIVE has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the 26th U.S. Secretary of Defense – General James Mattis – and has been showcased at Amazon Headquarters and at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing Conference opening for Brené Brown.

Veteran Spotlight: Greg Gutterman
Brigadier General Greg Gutterman, United States Air Force retired, is a native of Minnesota where he grew up playing baseball, football, and ice hokey. He played National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I ice hockey at the United States Air Force Academy and subsequently served our nation for 30 years as an active-duty military officer.
During his military career, Coach Gutterman accumulated three decades of coaching experience. He has coached players from three-year-old to college-aged players across six states during his military assignments.
He is president of the not-for-profit Academy Hockey Club, coaches Beavercreek High School hockey, and was named a 2021 finalist for the National Hockey League's Stick Tap for Service Award. |

General Gutterman is the author of two books. Hustle and Have Fun! provides a coach's guide to winning over players and parents. If you lead, teach, or coach at any level, this is the perfect book for you. Deliver! The Mindset of High-Performance Project Managers draws on General Gutterman's military experience to teach you how to avoid bureaucratic quicksand, deliver winning products, and stay ahead of your competition. |

October Poll: Have you applied for benefits?
Thank you to everyone who has contributed in our past polls. The data we collect from these polls is valuable and helps us to better serve the veteran community in Montgomery County.
In October we asked if you've applied for benefits. It's good to see that the majority of respondents either receive the appropriate amount of benefits or do not require benefits. If you have not applied for benefits but believe you qualify, please contact the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission and we will help you apply. |

Veteran Homelessness Reaches Record Low
VA has housed nearly 48,000 homeless veterans during 2024, helping veteran homelessness to decrease overall by 7.5% since 2023 and by 11.7% since 2020. The numbers align with a long term trend, with veteran homelessness reducing by 55.6% since 2010.
"No veteran should experience homelessness in this country they swore to defend, said VA Secretary Denis McDonough. "We still have a long way to go, but we will not stop until every veteran has a safe, stable place to call home."
If you encounter a homeless veteran, please refer them to the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission or the Dayton VA if they require immediate assistance. |
