Every veteran knows another veteran who still isn’t connected to the benefits they earned. Maybe they think they don’t qualify. Maybe they already have insurance. Maybe they don’t want to “take something” from another veteran. Maybe they lost their DD-214 and don’t know where to start.
That’s where the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission can help.
MCVSC should be the first stop for any veteran or surviving family member who wants to understand benefits, file claims, replace a DD-214, or find out what help may be available. If you served and have a DD-214, you can also contact the VA directly to begin the enrollment process for VA health care, even if you don’t need care right now.
And that part matters.
When more veterans are enrolled and counted, it helps the VA better understand the size and needs of the veteran community. That can help support funding, staffing, outreach and services for the veterans who do need care now, or who may need it later.
A few myths we need to kill
“I don’t need help.”
Enrollment isn’t weakness. It’s readiness. You may not need care today, but being connected before you need it makes the system work better.
“Other veterans need it more.”
Using or registering for earned benefits does not take them away from another veteran. The more veterans who are connected, the stronger the system becomes.
“I already have insurance.”
You may still be eligible for VA health care or other benefits. It is worth checking.
“I lost my DD-214.”
MCVSC can help you request replacement records and figure out the next step.
“I’m not sure I qualify.”
Don’t self-deny. Let MCVSC or the VA help determine eligibility.
So here’s the mission:
Find one. Help one. Get them connected.
Think of one veteran you know who isn’t enrolled, isn’t connected, or isn’t sure where to start. Send them to MCVSC. Offer to go with them. Help them make the call.
We all benefit when every veteran is seen, counted and connected.
