| MCVSC Website Gets a Facelift | The Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission website has received some updates to help make things easier to navigate. We continue to work hard to prioritize accessibility to ensure local veterans have access to the information and services they need.
Changes include a new menu system, a better system for organizing MCVSC archives, and an updated calendar system. If you run a local post or other veteran-centric organization and have events you would like to post to the calendar, please contact us and we'll help promote your events. | | |

Dayton VA Farmer's Market | | Enjoy fresh, locally grown produce this summer. Dayton VA will host a farmer's market every Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. through October 30th. Everyone is invited to visit for fresh produce, vendors, flowers, and food trucks. | | | |

Wright State Awarded Collegiate Purple Star | | Wright State University has once again been recognized as a Collegiate Purple Star campus by the Ohio Department of Education. Purple Star campuses are ones that help support military-affiliated students. The program began in 2022 and the designation lasts for three years. Schools are chosen by the Collegiate Purple Star Advisory Committee.
In our last newsletter, we highlighted a story about colleges preying on military vets for their benefits while delivering sub-par education. The Purple Star campus list is a great way to find a reputable institution that goes above and beyond for veterans.
Other nearby institutions earning Purple Star designations include:

- Xavier University
- University of Cincinnati

Dayton VA Announces New Housing Developer
| | | Dayton VA has partnered with a Washington, D.C. facilities management company to develop affordable housing by redeveloping VA-owned properties.
Using an "Enhanced-Use Lease," or EUL, Dayton VA Medical Center and The Pelenti Group will redevelop Freedom House and Liberty House buildings on the west Dayton VA campus. |

| Public Service Held for 4 Unclaimed Veterans | Four local veterans with no known next of kin were honored at a public service at Dayton National Cemetery on July 22.
The honored were:

Joseph S. Harris, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1973.
-
Joseph E. Anderson, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959.
-
William R. York, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969.
-
Mark S. Baker, who served in the U.S. Navy in 1976.
Each were provided burials with full military honors. Dayton National Cemetery, located at Dayton VA, which has interred military veterans since its creation in 1867. | | | |
