MCVSC Covers Repair Costs for Victory Oak Knoll Memorial | | Image courtesy of the Dayton Daily News | A massive tree limb caused major damage to the front gate of the Victory Oak Knoll World War I Memorial, located at Community Golf Course, Kettering. The Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission has committed funds to help repair the stone wall. Local scouts from Scouting America Troop 193 took to social media in a fundraising effort to pay for the repairs and their efforts caught the attention of the Dayton Daily News.
MCVSC Deputy Director Bryan Suddith took the article to the commission, which quickly approved the funds. The commission will also help the scouts to network with local veteran posts to receive funding for their Eagle Scout projects.
MCVSC has a history of funding local memorials. Last year the commission funded restoration for the Vietnam Veterans memorial. The commission has also contributed to construction fro the Medal of Honor memorial in Dayton.

| Lt. Dan Band Honors Veterans to Fire Up Dayton Air Show | It was a hot weekend for the Dayton Air Show, but well worth it to see the United States Air Force Thunderbirds in action.
Kicking off the weekend on Friday, Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band performed live, as part of the band's mission to show support for America's troops and veterans. Over the past 20 years, the Lt. Dan Band has performed over 500 shows to honor the men and women who currently or have served.
Gary Sinise is an actor best known for playing Lt. Dan in the 1994 classic, Forrest Gump. In 2011 Senise created the Gary Sinise Foundation to support active service members and veterans. The initiatives of the foundation include building smart homes for severely disabled veterans, honor flights to help veterans visit monuments and museums, and providing free concerts with the Lt. Dan Band.
