MCVSC Brings in Full-Time Case Manager
| | | | Say hello to Courtney Griffith, the latest member of the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission.
MCVSC brought Griffith in as a full-time case manager to provide extended help to local veterans. No other veterans service commission in Southwest Ohio has such a position. With Griffith, MCVSC will now be able to provide better followup and long-term support for our veteran population. |

The goal is to provide followup support for veterans who receive assistance from MCVSC but need addition support going forward.
“We’re paying the rent this month or we’re paying utilities, and then that would be it—they would be sort of on their own,” said MCVSC deputy director Bryan Suddith. “If the issue behind that was they didn’t have reliable transportation or didn’t have a contact for a job...they were sort of left on their own.”
The MCVSC expects the new position to continue our record of providing the best veteran care in Ohio. |

VA and DOD Announce Updates to Improve Veteran and Caregiver Access to Installations
| | The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and Department of Defense announced an improved installation access process for veterans and eligible caregivers for medical appointments, shopping, and certain morale, welfare, and recreation services. This should be a boon to local veterans in the Dayton area with the close proximity of Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
Eligible veterans who do not have a VA-issued Veteran Health Identification Card, as well as eligible caregivers, can enroll for installation access at the visitor center using their REAL ID Act-compliant driver's license or non-driver's identification card.
To enroll for reoccurring installation access, eligible Veterans and caregivers must establish identity, fitness, and purpose on their first visit to each DOD installation they wish to access at the visitor’s center. As part of enrollment, they must:
- Present an acceptable credential VHIC or REAL ID to establish identity.
- Undergo an on-the-spot criminal record and terrorism check to establish fitness.
- Have their eligibility for on-installation benefits verified electronically to establish purpose. If purpose is for health care, and the DOD installation does not have a commissary, exchange, or authorized MWR service, then proof of appointment will need to be provided.

Ohio Sisters Raise Money for Honor Flight
| Two sisters from Harrison, Ohio raised money on Veterans Day to support Honor Flight, which flies Veterans to Washington D.C. to experience our capital's many memorials. 12-year-old Tessa and 8-year-old Raya Ziegler raised more than $20,000 this past summer for local veterans to participate in Honor Flight.
The girls raised the money in partnership with a local O'Charley's where their mother works. They sold raffle tickets and collected cards from children to share with veterans. The girls managed to raise $2,700 in one day. | |
