Bipartisan "For Country Caucus" Demonstrates Uniting Power of Service in a Divided Congress
| | A story from AP News has been floating around various services highlighting the veteran "For Country Caucus" and its efforts to bridge the partisan gap in Congress. The caucus unites congressional members from both parties to address issues related to the military and veteran care from members. As a caucus of veterans, the members are uniquely qualified to advance policy regarding the armed forces and veteran support.
Legislation brought forward by the caucus includes a bill to help military families bear the added costs of deployment and a provision to allow federal agencies to allow military spouses to work remotely.
“People only get deluged with the crazy aspects of Congress and the things that don’t work and the people yelling and screaming,” said outgoing co-chair Jason Crow. “We just don’t get as much attention when we’re actually working together.”

Veterans May Be Eligible for One More Year of G.I. Bill Benefits
| In the past, veterans who served two periods of service (those who reenlisted at some point) where forced to choose between the benefits of the Montgomery G.I. Bill and the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill. VA has updated the policy to allow for veterans who served two periods of service—one under the Montgomery G.I. Bill and one under the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill—to receive up to an additional 12 months of G.I. Bill benefits.
While VA will automatically apply the benefits for approximately 2/3rds of those who qualify, some will need to file a claim. If you served two periods of service, with each falling under the timeframe of the separate G.I. Bills, the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission can help you file for benefits if VA does not automatically adjudicate your claim.
