VA to Implement New Record System at Dayton Medical Center by 2026 |
| | VA has announced its plan to bring its modernized Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to nine additional VA Medical Centers, including here in Dayton. Under the new plan, the rollout in Dayton should be complete by 2026.
VA originally contracted with Cerner to bring develop the new EHR in 2018. To date, six medical centers have implemented the system, but complications have delayed an expanded rollout. |
| VA hopes that the new system will help modernize health record systems and facilitate communication with the Department of Defense and make data exchange easier.
Since the initial contract, Oracle Corporation purchased Cerner for $28 billion. Full implementation all all VA medical centers is expected by 2031. | | | | House Passes Bill to Simplify VA Claims | The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill aimed at simplifying VA claims for veterans. The bill will require VA to contract with a research organization to ensure that claim notices are "clearer to claimants, better organized and more concise" and to find ways to alter the letters to reduce paper consumption and costs to the U.S. government.
U.S. Representative Tom Barrett, the bill sponsor, is an Army veteran. His experiences dealing with confusing VA correspondences motivated him to draft the bill. As a freshman Congressman, this is the first piece of legislation he has sponsored.
"This is unacceptable," Barrett said. "Claims letters should be the catalyst to care and benefits and not the obstacle."
Even with improved claims notices, there are still many obstacles veterans must navigate to filing a claim with VA. If you need any assistance filing a claim, reach out to the Montgomery County Veterans Service Commission. | | | |
