National VA History Center Update |
| If you notice extra construction when you visit the VA, don't be alarmed. Great things are on the way!
The Dayton VA began as one of the original National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers following the Civil War. While the site has provided veterans care for over 150 years, in 1930 President Herbert Hoover consolidated various government agencies providing veteran care into the modern VA. In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the VA in July 2030, the Dayton VA is working to open the first National VA History Center.
The Dayton VA History Center already has a rich archive, but the new center will provide the public and VA historians many more opportunities to discover the rich history of American veterans. Right now the Putnam Library is undergoing renovations to function as the public-facing archive and research facility, while an adjacent museum will be constructed.
While all the work will take a couple years to complete, some parts will be done sooner. The History Events Center is currently scheduled to be complete sometime in 2026, while a campus augmented reality tour should have its initial release later this year. | | | | Nominate a Veteran for the Dayton Dragons Veteran Salute | | The Dayton Dragons begin play in about a month so it's time to get ready for one of Dayton's best traditions. Not only do the Dragons put on a great show, they also support local veterans.
Caresource Military & Veterans has partnered with the Dragons since 2019 with their Veterans Salute program to recognize and support Miami Valley Veterans at select Dayton Dragons home games. Selected veterans will receive recognition during the game and VIP treatment.
The honored veterans of 2025 have already been selected, but you have all season long to submit a veteran for next year's season. The winners will be announced on Veteran's Day. | | | |
